Community Partners
The Georgia Restaurant Association works with many organizations in a variety of ways as part of our Community Involvement cornerstone. The following Community Partners receive a special level of support from the GRA:
The Atlanta Community Food Bank:
Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank currently distributes almost 2 million pounds of food and other donated grocery items monthly to more than 800 nonprofit partner agencies in 38 counties in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Distributing these donations to low-income Georgians, our partner agencies provide dynamic links between the local community, the Food Bank and our supporters.
In addition to our core business of food distribution, the Food Bank has a number of projects that help build community including Atlanta's Table, Community Garden, Hunger 101, Hunger Walk/Run, Kids In Need, Product Rescue Center and The Atlanta Collaborative Kitchen (TACK).
The Chefs Move to Schools program, run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, helps chefs partner with interested schools in their communities so together they can create healthy meals that meet the schools’ dietary guidelines and budgets, while teaching young people about nutrition and making balanced and healthy choices.
Communities in Schools - Dine Out for Kids:
CIS is the nation's leading community-based organization helping kids stay in school and prepare for life. For 28 years, CIS has successfully connected needed community resources to schools. It's done through partnerships with local schools districts, business leaders, community organizations, government, social service providers and others.
DOFK provides an opportunity for restaurateurs and sponsors to support at-risk students in their community by donating a portion of the profits from breakfast, lunch and/or dinner to CIS on a specified date.
Hospitality Education Foundation of Georgia:
The Hospitality Education Foundation of Georgia, Inc. is the statewide link to the next generation of hospitality employees. They support over 6000 ProStart students in Georgia high schools. ProStart is the NRAEF program for students who are interested in culinary arts and foodservice management. Students obtain valuable hotel, restaurant and food service skills through classroom training and on-the-job experience.
As a 501 c (3) non-profit group supporting high school hospitality programs, ProStart and Lodging Management, they are helping to shape the future of Georgia's hospitality and food service industry today.
Share Our Strength:
Share Our Strength® is a national organization that works hard to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry. They weave together a net of community groups, activists and food programs to catch children at risk of hunger and surround them with nutritious food where they live, learn and play.
