Nakato celebrates 40th anniversary with Jiro Dreams of Sushi Documentary Premiere

Nakato Japanese Restaurant will begin celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special offering in concordance with David Gelb’s highly anticipated sushi documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi (opening 04/20 at UA Tara Cinema). Starting April 20th, Nakato will offer “Dinner after Jiro”, a four course, traditional Japanese dinner for $50. Two “Sushi 101” classes are also being held May 3rd and May 31st at the restaurant’s Buckhead location, 1776 Cheshire Bridge Rd. Ne. Atlanta, GA 30324.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi tells the story of Chef Jiro Ono of Tokyo, popularly regarded as the world’s best sushi chef. “We’re so excited that the traditional art of sushi making and its masters are taking an international spotlight. It’s an art form we’ve been practicing at Nakato for 40 years in Atlanta. The film, the art of sushi is something we want to share with our community,” said Sachi Nakato, third-generation owner of Nakato Japanese Restaurant. The “Dinner After Jiro” coursed menu will highlight the very best of traditional Japanese cuisine and include a sushi course and sake flight pairing. Sushi lovers can reserve a place in the “Sushi 101”class for $75 and learn the art of sushi making as they are guided by Nakato’s third generation sushi chef, Yoshiharu Kakinuma. “Students” will make three sushi rolls and enjoy edamame appetizers and sake pairing. Each student will be able to take home their very own sushi rolling mat and chopsticks. Jiro movie goers will receive a $25 discount on the class with their ticket stub.
