Association Urges Restaurant Employees Be Among the First Vaccinated

Restaurant employees would be among the first groups of workers to be vaccinated against coronavirus if Congress heeds the National Restaurant Association’s just-issued recommendations for protecting the nation’s food supply.
The trade group argues in its new Blueprint for Restaurant Revival that restaurant and agricultural workers are critical to keeping the nation fed. Once a vaccine is developed, the association asserts, those individuals should be moved toward the front of the inoculation line, behind healthcare workers, first responders and persons at high risk.
The industry’s workers should also have an inside track on being tested for the virus, the association contends. It is also calling on Congress to upgrade the nation’s testing capabilities for all infectious diseases, a step it supports as a protection against future pandemics.
