Any community that already has Sunday Sales will need to have a ballot referendum to make the change, however, any communities that do not have Sunday Sales will be required to have two ballot referendums: 1) to vote Yes or No to implementing Sunday Sales, and 2) to decide if their local time will be 11:00 a.m. or remain at 12:30 p.m.
The GRA is working with like-minded organizations to encourage local municipalities to put the following language on the November 6th general election ballot (only if the community already has Sunday Sales):
Shall the governing authority of (name of municipality or county) be authorized to permit and regulate Sunday sales of distilled spirits or alcoholic beverages for beverage purposes by the drink from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.?
In order to have this bill on the November ballot, the resolution or ordinance needs to be passed by the City or County by July 31, 2018 at the latest. This will give enough time for the local Election Director to prepare the materials to distribute to the public.
If passed, the effective date would be determined by the City or County. 11 a.m. Sunday sales could start effective immediately or the municipality could determine a later start date.
