The College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University is unveiling a brand-new Restaurant Operations and Management Certificate program this spring. The six-week program covers front-of-the-house operations and is centered on the three essential operational components of a restaurant: the business, the customers and the employees. Classroom topics will range from the fundamentals of management and the quality of service to advertising, marketing and promotion.
“Our program provides students the comprehensive training needed for a solid foundation in restaurant management careers,” said Pam Moss, program manager for the Restaurant Operations and Management Certificate.
According to the National Restaurant Association, annual sales in the restaurant industry are $783 billion and 1.7 million new restaurant jobs will be created by the year 2026. In 2016, there were 438,900 restaurant and food service jobs in the state of Georgia alone.
Operation Managers in restaurants, catering operations and other food service areas earn a median salary of $71,340 in 2015 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“This program was developed from a unique need in the industry,” Moss said. “If you’ve worked in the restaurant industry, entry-level jobs are fairly easy to find, but moving up in the industry can be a slow process. The additional training and development can make a difference in receiving a promotion.”
The new program at the college aims to train and equip individuals for a thriving career in the restaurant industry. Students who are currently working in the industry will gain additional experience and those who are new to the field will be introduced to the many functional areas of restaurant management.
“What makes the restaurant industry so interesting is that it’s always growing and evolving,” Moss said. “Our goal is to ensure students in this program receive practical application and sufficient training to begin or advance their career.”
The Restaurant Operations and Management Certificate program begins on Monday, April 10 and runs for six consecutive weeks. For more information on this program or other hospitality related offerings, visit ccpe.kennesaw.edu or call 470-578-6765.
