GK SUPPER CLUB INSPIRATION
Before Atlanta Chef Ryan Hidinger was diagnosed with stage-four cancer, he and his wife Jen hosted Prelude to Staplehouse supper clubs in their home as a precursor to opening their dream restaurant, Staplehouse. After his diagnosis, the purpose behind opening Staplehouse became bigger than they had imagined, and the Giving Kitchen was born. That was five years ago this May. In that time, because of Ryan’s vision, GK has helped over 1,000 restaurant workers in crisis with over $1.6 million. GK wants to honor Ryan’s vision for the Giving Kitchen for its fifth anniversary by taking our supporters back to the beginning with the GK Supper Club, inspired by Prelude to Staplehouse.
HOW IT WORKS
GK has partnered with PeachDish to offer meal and hors d’oeuvres boxes with dishes inspired by Ryan Hidinger’s Prelude to Staplehouse recipes. Anyone can sign up to host a GK Supper Club at givingkitchen.org/supperclub, and from there they determine what kind of party they want to host: a cocktail party with hors d’oeuvres, banquet-style reception, potluck or seated dinner—it’s up to the host, and GK encourages people to get creative with their GK Supper Club (there are prizes involved!). During the GK Supper Club, hosts are asked to share the message of what the Giving Kitchen does and ask guests to donate to GK in lieu of a dinner “ticket.”
Hosts can purchase their kits through PeachDish, of which a portion of each will be donated back to GK:
- Hors d'oeuvres Box: 8 servings for $84 ($10 donated to GK)
- Smoked Trout Canapes with Love is Love Farm Baby Beets, Horseradish Cream and Micro Arugula
- ‘Family Meal’ Meatball Subs with Mozzarella, Parmesan and Fresh Basil
- 3-Course Meal Box: three courses for 4 guests for $148 ($20 donated to GK)
- Chorizo-Cilantro Salad with Red Onion and Pickled Tomato
- Braised Beef Short Rib with Spring Onion Potato Cake and Carrot Radish Salad
- Lady Fingers with Ginger-Lemon Cream
- Dinner Party Meal Box: one hors d'oeuvres kit and two meal kits for 8-10 guests for $380 ($75 donated to GK)
Each host who orders their meal through PeachDish will receive a GK Supper Club kit, which includes a host apron as well as menus, place cards and other materials to make hosting a breeze. Hosts should sign up and purchase their PeachDish kits by April 16 to guarantee receipt of a GK Supper Club kit.
“The partnership between PeachDish and the Giving Kitchen came naturally,” said PeachDish President Judith Winfrey. “We are proud to partner with a company that holds the same strong core values of community and giving back.”
If a host opts for a potluck or home-cooked meal, they are still eligible to receive a GK Supper Club kit mailed to them when they pledge to raise at least $1,000 at their dinner as a Table of Honor host. Sign up to sit at the Table of Honor at givingkitchen.org/supperclub.
Don't want the clean-up of hosting in your home? Take your friends out to your favorite restaurant, foot the bill and ask them to pay it forward by giving to GK.
Prizes will be given to the top three GK Supper Club fundraisers, as well as to other hosts chosen at random.
