TEAM Georgia’s advisory board met recently and elected 3 new Board members to its leadership group. These new members are: Mike Beatty, Ryan Costigan and Chris Hardman. TEAM Georgia is our state’s premier highway and waterway safety advocacy group, encouraging safe and sober driving choices as a means of reducing transportation crashes, injuries and fatalities. Mike Beatty, President & CEO, Great Promise Partnership, Inc. was appointed to serve as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs by Governor Sonny Perdue in June 2003 and reappointed to serve by Governor Nathan Deal in January 2011. Known for his leadership skills in education, business and government, Commissioner Beatty’s background provided him a unique perspective of the challenges facing our state’s local communities.
Prior to his service as DCA Commissioner, Mike Beatty worked as an educator and businessman. As an educator, Commissioner Beatty taught history and coached football for eight years in Northeast Georgia schools. As a businessman, he and his wife Judy started and operated several small businesses, including a poultry and cattle farm.
Mike’s initial government service was as an elected leader. As a state legislator, Commissioner Beatty served northeast Georgia in both the state House of Representatives and the state Senate. During his tenure in the Georgia General Assembly, his hard work on numerous issues was recognized by his constituents and several organizations, including the Georgia Family Council and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Ryan Costigan serves as the Membership Director for the Georgia Restaurant Association. He has worked for the GRA for over 9 years in multiple key positions and has professional experience in all facets of trade association management. In addition to overseeing GRA’s government relations program, Ryan is deeply involved in GRA Budgeting and Forecasting, Sales and Event Management, Employee Training and Development, Vendor and Board of Director Relations and PAC Fundraising.
Costigan possesses a lobbyist registrations in State, Local and Vendor designations in Georgia. He is a graduate of Florida State University holding a BS in Marketing and Real Estate. Ryan is an Eagle Scout recipient and is an advisory Board Member of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Costigan was also a past Board member of the Georgia Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Chris Hardman serves as the Director of Membership for the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association (GHLA) representing the states lodging industry. In addition to Hardman’s role overseeing membership, he also serves as one of GHLA’s registered lobbyist. Prior to recently joining GHLA, Hardman served four years as the Member Development Executive and a registered lobbyist for the Georgia Restaurant Association.
Prior to working with GHLA, Hardman was the Research Associate for Georgia Capitol Associates, advocating on behalf of the hospitality and tourism industry. Hardman holds a BBA in Hospitality Administration from Georgia State University, Summa Cum Laude (GSU). He also holds a Master’s in Global Hospitality Management from GSU.
Chris sits on the Advisory Board for NOSH Talks, a group that hosts networking events just for people who work in hospitality. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Mountain Food Bank whose mission is to address hunger, health, and quality of life by serving those in need.
