Hey fellow party-goers! TGIF! And more importantly, thank goodness it is Flashback Friday! This Friday we’re taking it back to the Athens EAT GA event.
EAT GA is a dining program in Georgia that hosts a multi-city Edible Agriculture Tour. The program was originally created by the Georgia Restaurant Association and Taste of Atlanta. EAT GA wholeheartedly believes in the farm-to-table concept and aims to spread this concept by means of their Edible Agriculture Tour. The tour gives guests a chance to taste the freshest ingredients grown by local farmers. Only the most tart lemons, the juiciest cherry tomatoes, and the crunchiest pecans will make it from your local farmer’s backyard to your table.
Sunday, May 18th, the Edible Agriculture Tour packed its bags and headed for the Classic City. Heirloom Cafe housed the event and featured some of Athens’ favorite chefs as they partnered up with their local farmers. It was an event truly “grown” from the South! “We were thrilled to partner Athens chefs and Georgia produce for the Edible Agriculture Tour in May,” said Allison Palestrini, program manager for the Edible Agriculture Tour. “The attendees raved about being able to connect directly with the chefs preparing the bites and learning about the local farmers who contributed the ingredients.”
Each chef put some good ol’ southern TLC into their dish and wowed every guest with each bite. The Branded Butcher, Last Resort Grill, Frozen Pints and yours truly, Epting Events, were just a few of the restaurants that participated in the event. All the restaurants served tastes that left guest’s taste buds begging for more. Anderson Farms, DaySprings Farms, Front Field Farms, Sundance Family Farms and the Schermer Pecan Company, were the farms that provided the event with ingredients they grew with a little magic, love and Georgia soil.
Epting’s very own Sales Director, Brittany Gunter participated in the EAT GA event. Brittany not only fashions some of the best events in the Southeast, but she is also known as the Praline Queen of the South! She has traveled far and wide to whip up Epting Events’ signature dessert, freshly caramelized pecan pralines.
At the EAT GA event in Athens, Epting Events partnered up with Schermer Pecans and Frozen Pints to craft a praline “sundae funday.” The ice cream from Frozen Pints was topped with a warm praline, peach balsamic and habanero sea salt.
Needless to say, the sundaes were a hit and definitely an ice cream lover’s dream come true! We loved partnering up with EAT GA and the local farmers of Athens to craft a dish that was not only farm-fresh, but also wonderfully delicious. We encourage all our readers to continue to eat local and support the Athens community whenever possible!
