For years, women have impacted the way food is prepared and served, and how restaurants are developed, operated and managed.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the National Restaurant Association is highlighting some of the women who serve on our board of directors and play a key role in charting the course for the future of the industry. We are grateful for their service and advice to the next generation.
What was your first job in the restaurant and hospitality industry? I was a checker at an S&S Cafeteria in Tampa, Fla.
Who was your most important industry mentor and why? Steve Nygren, founder of the Peasant Restaurant Group and the Serenbe Community in Georgia, understood that a restaurant needs to give back to its communities, and knew how critical the employee experience was to the guest’s dining experience.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women seeking successful careers in our industry? Find a mentor, and make sure it is someone you respect and admire.
