BMI ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF SONGVIEW PLATFORM
A major milestone in music licensing transparency has arrived. The four leading U.S. performing rights organizations—ASCAP, BMI, Global Music Rights (GMR), and SESAC—have announced a landmark expansion of Songview, the industry’s most comprehensive public performance copyright data resource. Originally launched by ASCAP and BMI in 2020, Songview now includes data from all four PROs, featuring information for more than 38 million musical works—the first time this level of detail has been available from a single source.
For restaurants, bars, and venues that play music for guests, this expansion brings greater clarity and confidence when navigating music licensing. With easier access to accurate song ownership and administration data, businesses can make informed licensing decisions while supporting the artists and songwriters whose music enhances the dining experience.
In the coming months, Songview will incorporate additional data from GMR and SESAC, including publisher names and ownership details for jointly represented works. The effort has been praised by lawmakers and industry leaders alike for its contribution to transparency, collaboration, and fairness in the music licensing ecosystem.
